Boxing Workouts on Your MP3 Or iPod – Why They Work Better Than Boxing DVDs, and How to Get Started

An authentic boxing workout is very different from box-aerobics. In an aerobic style class/DVD you punch into the air. With a boxing workout you hit targets – punching bags or punch mitts. But you still need a routine to call the shots and push you through your workout. This article explains why an audio / Mp3 routine works better than a DVD for boxing, and gives 5 tips for getting started.

Tip 1 – Watch the target, not the screen.

If you are following a boxing workout on a TV or computer screen, there is a higher chance of miss-hitting the target. When you hit a target such as a punching bag or punch mitt you need to be focused on that target, not a screen. One reason is the safety factor. The angle of your fist against the target is critical. Anyone who has miss-hit a hook or uppercut knows what I’m talking about. Ouch.

Tip 2 – Learn the moves visually, then switch to audio.

Audio works best, but only once you have learned the moves. If I say throw a double jab, cross, hook, cross but you don’t know how to throw a proper jab or even what it looks like, it’s going to be difficult to learn that from audio only. It is possible, but only if the audio track contains very clear technique tips. So the main point is – learn your good technique from a proper boxing trainer (not a personal trainer, unless they really know boxing), or from video. Then switch to audio only.

Tip 3 – Train the Authentic way.

Find a boxing workout routine that has authentic punches and combos. In other words, not box-aerobics. If you are going to do a fitness boxing workout, you may as well learn to punch correctly. After all, someone is going to want to see your uppercut one day – so you’d better be able to look the part! Also, in my view the “beat timed” aerobics approach does not work for boxing. How can you keep a beat for a jab, cross, slip cross, hook, cross combo? Especially on the punch mitts!

Tip 4 – Take the workout with you.

One of my students, Louise, 46, and from the UK had lost a lot of weight with her class boxing workouts. She went on holidays recently and wanted to keep up the good work. She was able to load an audio boxing workout to her iPod and work out while she was away. Her partner knew how to hold punch mitts, so they packed a pair to take with them. That’s the other great thing about an audio workout – it travels well.

Tip 5 – Make sure your audio workout is compatible with your boxing equipment.

What sort of boxing equipment have you got? Punch mitts (also called focus pads)? Punching Bag? Speedbag? If your audio or DVD routine is designed to work with shadow boxing (air punching) it may not work so well on the punch mitts with a partner, which has its’ own timing, technique and safety factors. Here’s a few quick tips to match up your equipment with your delivery method for your routine.

If you are training with a partner indoors using punch mitts = use a CD based routine so you both can hear.

If you are training with a partner outdoors = use an Mp3, where one hears, then calls the shots to the other.

If you are training on a speedbag (a.k.a speedball) = normal combos like jab,cross,hook will not work.

If you are training on a punching bag by yourself = use either CD or Mp3.

Central Serous Retinopathy (CSR) – Ayurvedic Herbal Treatment

Central serous retinopathy (CSR), also known as central serous chorioretinopathy (CSC), is a disease of the eye and retina, which affects vision. CSR is known to be closely related to stress, gastritis (H. pylori bacteria), kidney disease, and the use of medications like steroids. This condition usually affects males from the age of 20 to 50 years; however, females too may be affected. This condition results from leakage of choroidal fluid due to breaks in the retinal pigment epithelium, resulting in a swelling beneath the retina which accumulates under the central macula. This causes blurred or distorted vision, known as metamorphopsia. Retinal detachment may cause a blurred or grey spot in the central visual fluid.

Modern treatment of CSR consists of removing the known cause of the condition, discontinuing steroids, and providing counselling and psychotherapy for stress. No medication is known to provide benefit in the treatment of this condition; however, some physicians are of the opinion that mild dose aspirin may help in early recovery. Some patients report benefit with a short course of steroids; however, this treatment is controversial and possibly may cause a relapse or aggravation of the condition in the long run. Hot laser treatment, or cold laser is known to provide benefit by plugging the leakage in the retinal epithelium; however, care needs to be taken in the implementation of this treatment in order to prevent damage to the retina and long-term scarring.

The overall prognosis of this condition is usually quite good, with more than 90% patients reporting improvement within the first six months. However, about 5% of patients may have rapidly deteriorating vision due to a condition known as Type II CSR, in which there is a shallow but persistent fluid build-up. A few patients may report recurrence of the condition, resulting in progressive loss of vision. Scarring may cause persistent problems such as decreased night vision, reduced color discrimination and distorted vision.

Ayurvedic herbal treatment is especially useful in patients with recurrent CSR and in those patients with little or no response to modern medications or laser therapy. The aim of treatment is to prevent leakage of fluid by strengthening the basement retinal pigment epithelium and helping to resolve the fluid accumulation, so that retinal detachment can be treated or prevented. Treatment is also aimed at reducing stress and preventing strain of the internal parts of the eye.

Medicines like Saptamrut Loh, Tapyadi Loh, Ekangveer Ras, Trayodashang Guggulu, Maha Triphala Ghrut, Maha Manjishthadi Qadha, Saarivadi Vati,: Punanava Mandur, Lakshadi Guggulu, and Rasayan Ghan Vati are especially useful in the management of this condition. Herbal medicines which are useful in the treatment of CSR include Manjishtha (Rubia cordifolia), Saariva (Hemidesmus indicus), Triphala (Three fruits), Punarnava (Boerhaavia diffusa), Ashwagandha (Withania somnifera), Shatavari (Asparagus racemosus), Yashtimadhuk (Glycyrrhiza glabra), Patol (Tricosanthe dioica), Patha ( Cissampelos pareira), Musta (Cyperus rotundus) and Kutki (Picrorrhiza Kurroa).

Medicines like Praval Panchamrut, Sutshekhar Ras and Kamdudha Ras are used to treat associated gastritis. Gokshuradi Guggulu, Chandraprabha Vati, and Punarnavadi Qadha are used to treat associated chronic kidney inflammation. Medicines like Saraswatharishta, Prasham, Brahmi (Bacopa monnieri), Jatamansi (Nardostachys jatamansi) and Shankhpushpi (Convolvulus pluricaulis) are used to treat associated stress along with counseling.

Oral medications like Triphala Ghrut, Yashtimadhuk Ghrut, Shatavari Ghrut, and eye drops containing Triphala, Yashtimadhuk, and rose water can be used on a long-term basis to prevent relapse of the condition. Most individuals affected with chronic or recurrent CSR require Ayurvedic herbal treatment for about three to six months. Regular treatment can provide complete relief to individuals affected with this condition, as well as prevent a relapse and long-term complications. This treatment can also be given concurrently with modern therapy like laser treatment. Ayurvedic herbal treatment thus has a definite role to play in the management and treatment of CSR.

Teff Flour and the Candida Diet

Have you ever heard of teff flour? I hadn’t either until I started experimenting with gluten free flours to use on the candida diet. Teff grass, botanical name Eragrostis tef, is an ancient grain that can thrive in a variety of extreme weather conditions, which makes it a very reliable grain choice. Teff grass is native to Ethiopia where it has been used for centuries as food for cattle and a component of building materials. Teff is the smallest grain in the world but despite its small size it is an extremely versatile grain. In Ethiopia today it is milled into flour and used to make a flat bread call injera, porridge and as an ingredient in alcoholic beverages. Although teff has proven to be a reliable grain it has gone pretty much unrecognized and unused in North America until now.

Increasing awareness of medical conditions such as celiac disease, autism, gluten allergies/sensitivities and candidiasis in which eliminating gluten from one’s diet is necessary or may be beneficial has brought non-glutinous flours such as teff to the forefront in North America. As we search for alternatives to our staple gluten filled grains, wheat, barley and rye, we are starting to search the globe far and wide for useful alternatives. Using teff flour as part of your diet to treat these conditions is of particular interest because teff flour has a very impressive nutritional profile when compared to that of other flours, both glutinous and non-glutinous. Teff flour contains a large amount of bran and germ which makes it an excellent source of dietary fiber, protein and iron. Teff is also a good source of calcium. Since teff flour does not contain gluten, is such a nutritional powerhouse and is slightly lower in carbohydrates than some other grains it is an ideal choice for the candida diet also known as the yeast free diet.

The candida diet is used to treat candidiasis, an overgrowth of yeast in the intestinal system. This is why it is often referred to as the yeast free diet, as the goal is to eliminate all foods and ingredients containing yeast and ingredients that feed yeast, in order to reduce the amount of yeast in the intestinal system. The biggest offenders tend to be sugar, processed foods, quick-acting carbohydrates, vinegar and fermented foods. Many candida diet resources also suggest giving up glutinous grains such as wheat, rye and barley because they are not only hard to digest, which puts an added burden on an already compromised digestive system, but gluten may also contribute directly to the yeast overgrowth problem by feeding the yeast. Symptoms of candidiasis include but are not limited to digestive problems, mental confusion, premenstrual syndrome, depression, eczema and acne.

The cornerstone of treatment for candidiasis is the candida diet. The candida diet is the most important part of the treatment but can be the most difficult part because of the amount of foods that are eliminated. Having options such as teff flour opens up new possibilities on the candida diet. Using teff flour along with other non-glutinous flours can help the candida dieter to create a variety of yeast free dishes. You can substitute teff flour for about one fourth of the flour called for in a recipe.

Unleash the Power of Your Menstrual Cycle

On my 12th birthday, at 7:12 pm God gave me the second greatest gift that any girl could ever want. I got my period. My first greatest gift was my boobs and I had already had them; so I was pretty damn happy. I read the book, “Are You There God it’s Me, Margaret,” twice and identified with the main character’s anguish over getting her period. To date, this is still one of my all time favorite books in the world. My mother told me that when my menstrual cycle started that would mean that I had blossomed into a woman capable of giving life and that I should never let a boy come near me. My father gave me a $20.00 increase in my weekly allowance the day my period started. “You are now a young lady and you need the extra money to buy special girlie things,” my daddy said. Ever since my period entered into my life; I have always loved her and she has always been my best friend.

When I was fifteen, she did not come home for two months. I was hoping that she had not run away with a boy– but unfortunately my instincts were right. After this incident I always tried to control her with synthetic hormones, fertility charts, sexual positions, and a variety of other barriers but she has always had a mind of her own. There were times that I really, really hated her too– like right before a hot date; a trip to the amusement park, and surprising me while I was wearing my white jeans in my seventh grade home economics class; not to mention the funk that she would put me in alerting me that she was on her way home. Thirty years later I have learned that my menstrual cycle is not simply designed to notify me of whether or not I am ovulating or pregnant; my menstrual cycle holds within it the key to healthy balance in my biological, psychological, and spiritual well-being. As women we are biologically designed to be the emotional givers and nurturers of life. We cook, clean and take care of other people and if it was not for our periods we would never know when to sit down and allow someone else to nurture us and bring us a cup of tea.

Most theorists, scientist, and researchers believe that the primary purpose of the menstrual cycle is to create and prepare a woman’s body for pregnancy. Due to groundbreaking new studies on the impact of hormonal changes on a the female brain and how this affects her behavior, I believe that the menstrual cycle is nature’s alarm system that provides women with the emotional, psychological, and cognitive adaptive skills and clues that allow them to function and survive in a male dominated society. A woman’s menstrual cycle is nature’s psychological and biological navigational map that is designed to guide and instruct her on how to improve her life and maximize her full potential.

The menstrual cycle’s ebb and flow is not only connected to the waxing and waning of the moon, each week of the cycle is symbolic of the weather cycle of winter, spring, summer and fall as well. Each season of the weather has secrets, rituals and responsibilities that must be utilized to maintain a harmonious flow of nature that stabilizes the environment to maintain and perpetuate the cycle of life. If squirrels do not hide food in the late summer and throughout fall, their species would cease to exist. The same natural wisdom that tells birds when to migrate, bears when to hibernate, and flowers when to blossom is encoded in the menstrual cycle of each woman. Modern women have been conditioned to curse and hate their menstrual cycle as interference in their daily life as opposed to embracing its innate knowledge, wisdom and practical common sense.

A woman’s mood, memory, and cognition are affected by her menstrual cycle. The first day of a woman’s period is day one of her menstrual cycle. During the two weeks before a woman releases an egg (before ovulating) her moods are dominated by estrogen. Estrogen is an antidepressant hormone that promotes bonding in sexual and non-sexual relationships. Estrogen gives women their secondary sex characteristics, lubricates the vagina and helps it to maintain a thick lining, causes the lining of the uterus to thicken, increases connections in the hippocampus the part of the brain responsible for long term memory, and regulates the liver’s production of cholesterol. Testosterone levels also rise within in the first half of the menstrual cycle. Testosterone is responsible for increased mental focus, better mood, increased spatial ability, more energy, muscle and bone growth, more risk-taking, increased orgasms and interest in sex. Testosterone increases your overall sense of well-being and self-esteem. Estrogen and testosterone reach a crescendo together during, spring the second week of the menstrual cycle. During winter and spring, the first two weeks of our menstrual cycle, our brains are more active, rational, focused, and we are better able to hear positive words.

After a woman ovulates her moods are dominated by progesterone which rises in the second half, third week of the menstrual cycle. A woman’s sex drive decreases after ovulation. Progesterone neutralizes the effect of estrogen and testosterone. Progesterone causes breast tenderness, sleepiness, fuzzy thinking and increased hunger and thirst. Progesterone lowers anxiety, diminishes anger and is an overall mood stabilizer. After ovulation progesterone causes a woman’s body temperature to rise just as the sun increases the heat during the summer. Progesterone is similar to valium; it has a sedative affect that creates a warm, fuzzy, environment to support a growing fetus. In the second half of your menstrual cycle, during late summer and fall, you are more likely to hear and talk about negative emotions. You are also more likely to hear negatively charged words, see yourself as fat, criticize yourself and others and be more intuitive.

Most women tend to be social beings interested in relationships and pleasing others. One of the primary purposes of a woman’s menstrual cycle is nature’s way of helping her to look inward and take notice of her own needs, desires, strengths, weakness and overall biological and psychological well-being. Do you know the perfect week during the month of your menstrual cycle to travel to unknown destinations, take an exam, end a relationship, clean the garage, be creative, get a pedicure, take a vacation or hang out with your girlfriends? Each week of the menstrual cycle is broken down into a season that correlates with its biological and psychological characteristics. Each season of the menstrual cycle will give suggestions that will help you utilize nature’s energy force to maximize your full potential.

Winter 1st Week Release Reflect Week

Like winter, the uterus is barren and empty. The uterus relieves the pain of the past by physically drawing a woman’s attention to her body, her emotions and her surroundings. Winter provides the opportunity for renewal.

The first day of your period begins the menstrual cycle. This is the best time of the month to go within and nurture your soul. This is the perfect time for painting, drawing, journaling, meditating, beading, knitting, crocheting, and reading. Be selfish with your time, energy and resources. Don’t censure your tears, you need quiet time and space to renew your spirit and become whole again. Connect with yourself and ponder what things, projects or people that are working in your life. Release all things that are not good for you emotionally and psychologically, as natures is doing physically.

This is a good time to work on projects already in progress, and brainstorm new ideas. Watch what you say and how you communicate with others. Your words may be perceived as brutally, icy-cold, brisk, crisp and straight to the point like a freezing winter morning. Your words may be truthful and honest, but without estrogen and testosterone fully restored you lack the hormonal cushion to soften the cold blow of words and emotions that were held back during spring and summer. Spiritually, this time of release, urges you to say things that you would never say so that you can cleanse your psyche and maintain emotional and psychological balance in your life. This is the perfect season of your menstrual cycle to ponder whether or not you should break up with your boyfriend or divorce your husband. You should also ask yourself whether or not you are genuinely happy with your job, school or other endeavors in your life. Wisdom of winter is self-reflection without judgment.

A couple days into winter is a good time to have a heart to heart talk about what is ailing you, just remember to be cautious about how it comes out. What is good about this season of the month is that it connects you to the truth of your heart and soul. Don’t be afraid of this truth let it guide you and blossom in spring. Take care not to say something that you may regret in the spring, after the ice melts.

Go to the movies, coffee shop, or book store drink a warm of cup of tea and relax. Aaaah!

Spring 2nd Week Sexy Power Week

Ruled by Estrogen which causes the lining of the uterus to grow and thicken, and promotes growth and development of all parts of the reproduction system and breasts.

In spring time the ground is moist from the melting snow and pouring rain falls. The flowers are blossoming, the grass begins to grow and birds and other creatures are singing mating calls. Mother Nature is extremely busy creating, procreating and dancing. Nature is wet, buoyant, and flourishing.

This is the best week of your menstrual cycle to clean your garage, do laundry, any activity that requires a lot of physical energy. Due to estrogen’s affect on the hippocampus, the part of the brain that is responsible for long term memory, this is the perfect time of the month to take standardized tests, written exams, and go on job interviews. Your verbal ability is at sharpest; you will not be at a loss for words during this week. Say what you mean and mean what you say. Rationally, this could be the perfect week to break up with your boyfriend; hormonally this may not be the best week if you are simply attracted to your work colleague. Look at your assessment during the winter season to determine if you are speaking from your soul of libido.

Due to an increase in testosterone this improves your spatial ability. If you are traveling to an unknown destination, this is the best week of the month to go. Your brain is better able to read maps. Thanks to testosterone and estrogen this is your sexy, flirty season. If you are unhappy in your relationship, this is the week that you are more likely to cheat on your mate. If you are in a happy relationship, this is the week that you will feel more attracted to your mate and want to engage in sex. The mucus in your vagina is wet, stretchy and slippery. You body is creating the perfect environment to conceive new life physically, spiritually, and psychologically. The wisdom of spring is, “I can do anything, I am confident, beautiful and successful.” This is your season of power.

This is the perfect time to shop for new clothes and shoes, try on new make-up, dye your hair, go on vacation with your mate; visit your in-laws (especially if you don’t have a good relationship with them–you are emotionally stable and capable of overlooking negative comments and judgments). If you are going to host a party and you want to look and feel your absolute best plan it during the spring week of your menstrual cycle.

Late spring, early summer is when you are most fertile.

Summer 3rd Week Laid-back Relax Week

Just like the summer months your temperature rises. Progesterone makes the lining of the uterus stronger and spongy, just like the thick, lush, grass that covers the ground in summer. Summer is ruled by progesterone which causes breast tenderness, sleepiness, fuzzy thinking and increased hunger and thirst. Progesterone lowers anxiety, diminishes anger and is an overall mood stabilizer.

Summer is the week of your menstrual cycle when you are tired and sleepy no matter how much sleep you get during the night. If while driving home from work you can barely focus on the road or keep your eyes open, after 8 hours of sleep, it’s just your summer season injecting your body with valium, nature’s chill pill. Your body just wants to sleep, eat and drink. It’s not your imagination that you are extra tired and sleepy, it’s the summer heat sedating you, stealing all of your energy and ambition. Go to bed earlier than usual and eat breakfast in the morning. Drink plenty of water, herbal teas, and eat an abundance of fruits and vegetables.

This is the perfect week to get a pedicure and manicure, a body message, and relax on the beach. This is the best season of the month to take an all girl vacation for two primary reasons. Now that you have ovulated there is a decrease in your sex drive, therefore you are not looking at the romantic scene from the beach wishing your boyfriend was there to cuddle with you. Secondly, your sense of taste is heightened and you and your girlfriends can pig out at the buffet bar, when hormonally food could not taste any better. Summer is the perfect time to chill out with your girl friends, drink ice teas, ice cream sundaes and watch chick flicks in between naps. The wisdom of summer is to live in the moment and take time to enjoy life.

The challenge of this week is remaining focused, organized and energetic. Try to get your work clothes together the night before, cook meals for the week in advance and do not schedule any projects or events that require an extra expenditure of energy and time.

Fall 4th Week Wise Wacky Week

The ground is dry and covered with leaves this is an infertile season. Fall can be a beautiful season if your body is balanced in winter, spring and summer with a balance of exercise, nutrients, vitamins and rest. If you have been exercising and eating a well-balanced diet, fall is a breeze. It’s like going outside and being prepared for snow, rain or heat all in the same day. You know in advance that the weather is unpredictable due to climatic changes and you are prepared for Mother Nature’s myriad of possibilities.

The fourth week, of the menstrual cycle is when women experience premenstrual syndrome. Think of hormones as having many of the same capabilities as the sun. When the sun begins to withdraw in the fall, this causes unpredictable weather and it affects chlorophyll’s ability to use sunlight to turn carbon dioxide and water into a tree’s food. This causes the leaves to change colors, die and eventually fall from the tree branches. Progesterone’s laid-back effect withdraws 2-3 few days before your period, leaving your brain susceptible to stress. This is why you may cry easily, be argumentative, combative and feel depressed. This causes a hormonal imbalance that is responsible for many of the mood swings that some women experience before their periods. If you are crying over greeting cards, commercials, or someone not liking your new lipstick color, you are probably in the fall season.

Due to a decrease in hormones, your chemicals are imbalanced. This is not the best week to break up with your boyfriend, ask your husband for a divorce, kick your children out your home or try to put them up for adoption, or quit your job. Watch what you say because under stable hormonal weather conditions, you may have a totally different perspective or viewpoint. Your chemicals are imbalanced therefore you are more likely to be negative and critical of yourself and suffer from low self- esteem. Remember to tell yourself that your thoughts and negative self-talk are colored by the reduced sun light and changing weather conditions–these are not your true colors. You should not shop for clothes, new makeup or a new hairstyle during the fall season of your menstrual cycle because your estrogen levels are low and you are less likely to be analytical, rational and positive. In addition, you may have retained water and feel achy; this is not the best time to really see how beautiful you will look in a new sexy outfit.

Fall is a very special season because it is a reflection of your overall physical and psychological health. Fall brings you the spiritual lesson of being grounded and rooted in good health and sound mind; otherwise you will be susceptible to high winds blowing you in several directions like falling leaves. The most important lesson of this season is to postpone making any life changing major decisions until the sun returns.

The wisdom of fall brings two lessons: The first lesson is that you should pay close attention to what is missing or out of balance in your life. The second lesson is for women to learn to be patient and loving with them selves.

Herewith listed are some suggestions that will make fall a bearable season: Exercise, stretch, do yoga, or meditate daily. Take vitamin supplements, increase your intake of B6 found in bananas, soybeans, fish, bean, leafy green vegetables, raisins. Increase your intake of magnesium which is found in cashews, almonds, buckwheat. Boost your calcium intake found in milk products, tofu, okra and broccoli. Watch your diet by cutting back on caffeine, sugar, salt, sugar and white flour. Drink herbal teas and plenty of water.

When progesterone subsides this induces menstrual bleeding, a woman’s body releases the uterine lining, thus turning fall into winter, the first week of the cycle.

Life Fitness X3-5 Elliptical Trainer Review

We reviewed and used the Life Fitness X3-5 elliptical trainer over a period of 3 weeks. We also interviewed Life Fitness X3-5 owners as well as several people who had used the elliptical trainer in the gym or fitness center. The X3-5 is a step up from the old X3-0 model and has many top of the line features. However for an MSRP of about $2900.00 it is beyond the budget of the average home fitness equipment buyer. We found that the Life Fitness elliptical trainers top feature was the very smooth ride comes from its rear flywheel that incorporates the Life Fitness “Link6” drive system.

The Life Fitness X3-5 elliptical trainers 19-inch stride fits most people. Our largest tester is a power lifter at 6’2″ and 285 lbs and he felt the trainer was relatively stable. Pedal placement is good and allows comfortable foot placement. X3-5 owners and users were pleasantly impressed with how quiet this elliptical trainer is even during an intensive workout it remained one of the quietist ellipticals that we have tested. One owner did complain that this model was hard to move.

There are many quality features on the Life Fitness X3-5 that we like including the wireless heart rate controlled workout system that allows you to target specific workout intensity. Basically your hearts response to the workout, controls the resistance levels you experience during the workout. Basically it is a plug and play workout program tailored to your specific body.

The Life Fitness X3-5 elliptical trainers console contains the My Personal Trainer software that allows you focus on lower body workouts or total body workouts. We heard several comments on these features with the most common being that it worked well once you spent the time to figure out the system. Most people were using one of the 12 standard workout programs to achieve the workout intensity they desired. We rated the upper body workout and the handlebars as just average on this elliptical.

Most of the Life Fitness X3-5 owners we interviewed purchased their elliptical trainers on-line. The units were delivered and set up by the owners with few problems. Damaged or non functioning consoles seem to be the biggest complaint we heard. Customer service was rated as fair in resolving setup and warranty issues. The Life Fitness warranty for cross traines includes a lifetime on the frame, 2-years on the electrical and mechanical parts, 1-year on labor. An extended warranty is recommended for all elliptical trainers.

We recommend the Life Fitness X3-5 elliptical trainer for home and light commercial use, however it is probably too expensive for most in home applications. It has many features that will satisfy the most dedicated cardio fitness buf. Due to the relatively high cost for an in home elliptical trainer, we recommend that you spend the time to physically test ride any fitness equipment at least once before you make your purchase. Find a dealer, fitness center or local Y that has the Life Fitness X3-5 set up and complete an intense workout. we also suggest that you question X3-5 users at these fitness centers as well. Only then will you know for sure that the Life Fitness X3-5 will meet your fitness needs.

Can Yeast Infection Cream Really Help Your Hair Grow?

The active ingredients in yeast infection medications are usually miconazol nitrate (MN), trioconosol, or clotrimazole. Now, most people are using creams that contain miconazol nitrate (MN) as the active ingredient. I did find some cases on different forums of people using clotrimazole cream for growth, but didn’t find much about the use of trioconosol creams for hair growth. Those that have used the creams are calling it a miracle hair cream. Many have noticed their hair is growing faster. Some people experience an additional 1-2 inches per month as well as thicker hair. There are some cons however. Some people have mentioned that they notice increased shedding of the hair, have experienced headaches, and some scalp irritation.

Why yeast infection creams may work

Now for those of you who have done extensive research on hair loss… using an anti-fungal for hair growth won’t sound all that groundbreaking. As a matter of fact it is often recommended that an anti-fungal shampoo be added to your hair care regimen. Some of the popular recommendations include: Nizoral, Head & Shoulders, Selsun Blue, and T-Gel. Some dermatologists are even prescribing anti-fungal creams to those experiencing hair loss.

There are two reasons why an anti-fungal cream may help those suffering from hair loss. These creams have anti-fungal properties as well as anti-androgen properties. Let’s start with the anti-fungal properties. Hair loss can be caused by a number of different factors. One of them being fungal infections. One of the most well known fungal infection to cause hair loss is ringworm. Though, some health care practitioners believe that hair loss can also be caused by a chronic yeast (fungus) on the body and scalp also commonly called candida. If you browse through some different candida sites and forums and you’ll see countless people stating that they have noticed a link between their candida infections and hair loss.

Now, when most candida sufferers talk about their yeast problem, they are talking about an overgrowth of the yeast that is normally found in the intestines. It would be hard to imagine that using yeast infection cream on the scalp could somehow help the overgrowth of candida in the gut. No, but it wouldn’t be hard to imagine that if systemic (an all-over chronic infection) candida can cause hair loss, some yeast present on the scalp could certainly contribute to thinning over time. I won’t go into the mechanism of how candida can cause hair loss in this article but I will simply state that candida can infect the hair follicle, cause folliculitis which can contribute to thinning hair.

Some anti-fungals are known to also have anti-androgenic properties. Ketoconazole is one such anti-fungal. It is the active ingredient in a popular anti-dandruff shampoo, Nizoral, which has also gained some popularity in the hair loss world. There is an even a study that suggest that Nizoral might be as effective as minoxidil, the active ingredient in Rogaine, at increasing the thickness of an individual strand of hair.

For now, we can’t be sure whether yeast infection creams also have some anti-androgenic properties. What we do know is that many women (and men) have been using the creams to successfully thicken their hair and speed up growth. Now, keep in mind the side effects that were mentioned earlier.

If you’re intrigued but still not keen on applying yeast infection cream on your scalp, you may be happy to know that some hair loss sufferers are using dandruff shampoos with similar results. Dandruff has been shown to be caused, in part, to Malassezia yeast- a type of fungus. Dandruff shampoos contain different anti-fungal medications that target yeast, decrease dandruff, and as a side effect may also help your hair grow. Before you run out and grab just any dandruff shampoo, read through the below list of dandruff shampoos that may promote growth; some have a better reputation than others.

Head & Shoulders: A study has shown that the active ingredient, zinc pyrithione, in Head & Shoulders can modestly increase hair growth. In the study, the anti-fungal was compared to ketoconazole and piroctone olamine. Those who used the zinc pyrithione shampoo saw a decrease in hair shedding and an increase in the amount of hairs in the growth phase; but the other users in the study had more of an improvement with the ketoconazole and piroctone olamine shampoos. Additionally, many have commented on forums that they’ve had negative reaction to Head & Shoulders. This may or may not be from an allergic reaction to the zinc pyrithione. In any case, there are better options out there and Head & Shoulders would not be my first choice among this list of shampoos.

Nizoral: The active ingredient in Nizoral is ketoconazole. It is probably the most popular of shampoos in this list to be used specifically to help grow hair. Not many people complain of allergic reactions to the shampoo. In the study mentioned above, the ketoconazole shampoo outperformed the zinc pyrithione shampoo in decreasing the amount of shedding hair. If you have experienced hair loss, I would recommend adding Nizoral to your regimen to help slow any further shedding.

Selsun Blue: The active ingredient in this shampoo is zinc pyrithione, which we’ve already covered, and selenium sulfide. Selenium sulfide has been documented to cause hair loss. Obviously, this shampoo is not one that I would recommend trying if you are experiencing hair loss.

T-Gel Shampoo “Greasy Hair: This particular version of the shampoo contains piroctone olamine which has been shown to be even more effective than ketoconazole in increasing hair shaft diameter and about as effective in reducing hair shedding. Many users have also said that this shampoo is less drying than Nizoral. I would also recommend trying T-Gel, but only the version with piroctone olamine as the active ingredient. Other versions of the T-Gel shampoo have different active ingredients.

A Natural Alternative

Some of you may be more interested in a “natural” product. There are many herbs and oils that have anti-fungal properties. One natural alternative would be to apply emu oil to the scalp 2 to 3 times per week. Emu oil is a natural anti-inflammatory, anti-fungal, and antibacterial.

So yes, you can use yeast infection and jock itch cream to help grow your hair. If you are hesitant, try Nizoral or T-Gel, they both can work. If you are looking for something natural, emu oil is a good option.

Make Six Figures as a Personal Trainer and Have a Life

How much do top-of-the-line personal trainers make? Well, when I compare what I make as a personal trainer to the millions so many people on the Internet claim to be earning in the fitness industry, it feels like chump change. For example, I got a hard-sell automated e-mail message from a fitness marketer a while back, in which he claimed he’s a millionaire and that one of his friends is earning more than 150k–a month. I don’t make much more than that a year as a personal trainer so I know that such “success stories” can make you feel as though you’re heading down the wrong career path. So why pursue top-level training? Why should someone want to be a personal trainer and earn just 100K? Well the answer has nothing to do with money.

Don’t get me wrong; income’s important, but there are other things to consider, such as:

– What’s your take-home pay?

– How many hours do you work?

– Do you enjoy your job?

– Where are you headed, professionally?

– Are you the kind of person you want to be?

– Does your work fulfill or bore you?

These are the factors to weigh when deciding how much importance to place on how much you earn because they’re what being a top-level trainer is about. It has nothing to do with the income, because when you take all the factors into account, what this profession offers you is way more than just what the 100K represents.

Not that anything’s wrong with earning six-figures…After all, a $100,000 income has a certain cache and significance in America.

It signifies membership into the consumer society. You can now participate in and enjoy what people call the American dream and way of life. When you stop to think about it, our entire consumer society and marketing is devoted to these six figure earners. For example:

– You can afford payments on a Mercedes Benz.

– You can save enough to buy a home.

– You can afford to build a high-fashion wardrobe.

– You can take vacations to places to domestic resorts and abroad.

– You can afford to put away about 10% of your income each year.

Is all this superficial? Yeah, but if you can’t have or do these things, you’re going to feel left out, as though you’re one of the un-cool kids that can’t get into the party. But, consider the price of admission to that party. We get to feeling it’ll take millions of dollars to live a comfortable and appealing lifestyle. So, we wind up working for years

on end and sacrificing the best years of over lives and countless other things to get the kind of lives we want but wind up squandering much of them in that pursuit. We fail to realize is that just a simple plan to six figures in earnings would have got us there! I remember when I first reached this level of earnings. There’s a certain sense of entitlement that comes with it – as though the curtain’s been pulled back and a new world has been made available to you.

Keep in mind that less than 10% of people in our society earn 100K. When you consider the type of work personal training involves, and the fact that training rates are so high, I think it’s got to be the best and simplest career to earn a six-figure salary. By simple, I mean you can earn it just from training clients. You don’t have to sell e-books, vitamins, books or balance boards, record videos or open a tiny training studio. You can do it by training lucrative clients–period.

If you’re not earning that much as a trainer yet, you’re probably not thinking about what you do correctly. I don’t know where or when being a personal trainer got a bad rap in the fitness industry, but I think the reason is because it’s typically been associated with the major health club setting, not independent trainers who want to create a stable practice. That’s why you hear a lot of people who get into fitness for some reason speak disparagingly about training. They want to skip the step of being a personal trainer. They’re the ones who want to have a sports gym or be a strength coach for a major sports team.

There’s nothing wrong with that; getting to a top position in this field is a great goal And, being a top-level trainer can give you those opportunities. It becomes very easy to shape your future when you’re earning 75-100K in about 25 hours a week. Even if you’re a college student working towards your Sports Science degree, earning a good income in this field will shoot your career curve straight up. After all, what makes more sense to you? Working a part-time job doing some unrelated task while you’re in school, or already succeeding in the field you’re studying for? And keep in mind, you can apply everything you’re learning in school to your clients

The top level trainer lifestyle has given me the time to do and learn things that I never would’ve been able to do otherwise. Professionally, I learned to become an effective writer, have made lots of lucrative connections, written for the major training magazines, and speak at the major conferences. Personally, it’s given me the type of high-profile lifestyle that I thought was only reserved for drug dealers or trust-fund brats. Another group that knocks the six-figure salary are the trainers out there who think they’re earning it already. But when we’re talking about six-figures, there’s a lot we’re not talking about. I don’t mean that you:

– made 150K in sales in your training department last year, of which you only kept a small commission.

– worked 60 hours training children and old ladies (not that there’s anything wrong with that but it’s not for everybody).

– you “own” a gym. I earn more than any of the private gym owners I’ve ever met. They all had business partners so were only minority owners in their gyms, and had tons of expenses and worked at least 60 hours per week. They didn’t own the gym, the gym owned them.

What’s more, I don’t care that you own a training facility, because after you paid all of your employees, expenses, and advertising expenses, you’re very lucky and smart if you took home more than 100K–and, again, you probably work a lot of long hours to do it. No, when I say six figures, I really mean six-figures in take-home pay. How’s that possible? It’s because in our economy, the government loves entrepreneurs. They’re the people that make the whole economy possible in the first place.

Remember, when you’re a personal trainer, you are technically a small business, even if you don’t have any employees or have just 10 regular customers. If you form an S-corp as a small business person, you can declare a lot of your expenses as tax-deductible. And the tax documents for S-Corps are not highly scrutinized – that’s the advantage of living in a capitalist country. America loves and cultivates entrepreneurs.

There are other bennies to consider, such as the fitness lifestyle. Did you know that most fitness conferences are held in Vegas and Miami? This means that your hotel, airfare, and admission to the event are all tax deductible, as are your training certifications, gym memberships, and exercise classes. So, how do you get to that six-figure salary? It all boils down to just two things: conducting expensive training sessions, and finding and keeping about a dozen clients who can afford to pay for them. It really is that simple.

The Medifast Diet and Oprah Winfrey – Did Oprah Ever Do Medifast?

Over the years, Oprah has certainly done a lot of different diets. But for anyone wondering if Oprah ever did Medifast, I’m quite certain the answer is no. Back in the 1980s, Oprah did do a diet that, at the time, was quite similar to Medifast. But that diet was actually called Optifast and it is owned by a different company.

The big similarity between Optifast and Medifast is that both, back in the 80’s, were essentially liquid diets. This lead to very fast weight loss, not only for Oprah, but for lots of other dieters as well. Oprah lost about 65 lbs in just a few months. But you may have noticed — she gained it all back. This is typically what happens to a lot of dieters who follow very strict and very low calorie such as Optifast. In fact, the diet is so strict that it really requires doctor’s supervision in order to make sure you are getting all of the nutrients that you need and aren’t doing any damage to your internal organs.

While Medifast actually was quite like Optifast back then, it’s changed a lot over the years. First of all, Medifast is no longer strictly a liquid diet. Almost all Medifast dieters now follow what is known as a 5 and 1 plan. This refers to the fact that each day, you eat five Medifast foods and then prepare a lean and green meal for yourself from fresh greens, vegetables and quality protein sources such as chicken or fish.

Also, the Medifast foods are no longer just shakes. There are now many different food bars, puddings, a variety of oatmeal flavors, and even a couple of soups, chili and some hot drinks such as cocoa and chai latte. The variety helps make Medifast more interesting and easier to stick to in the long term. And the lean and green meal is designed to help you start planning your own meals so you can continue to maintain your weight loss during maintenance.

Optifast is still around too, but I’m not that familiar with how Optifast works nowadays, though I know it is still a meal replacement program. It is also a diet that you have to go to a doctor’s clinic to get rather than being able to order it for yourself at home. That’s one of the major advantages of Medifast. With the change to the 5 and 1 plan and the incorporation of fresh whole food into your daily meal plan, you can safely follow Medifast on your own. Although, it is always a good idea to let your doctor know what you are doing in case he or she has any concerns about your health specifically.

How to Train For Baseball With a Bow Flex

Bow Flex has created an extensive line of home exercise equipment. They have complete home gyms; tread climbers and even free weights. All of these have a place in a good overall workout routine; however, some are better than others are for the baseball player.

Baseball

In order to play baseball well you will need strong legs, back and arms. You will also need a fair amount of endurance to go with the strength you develop. Each part will need to be adequately worked to give you a well-rounded performance.

Arms

In baseball no matter what position you play you need a strong throwing arm, however if you are going to pitch this is even more true. There are two ways to get the muscle tone you will need for pitching, free weights, and the different exercises available with the home gym.

o Triceps pushdown

o Seated bicep curl

o Seated wrist extensions

o Preacher curl

o Many more

Back

Legs

You may run a little or a lot in one game the point is you never know, so you will need to participate in a good cardiovascular workout to be prepared. Ball players will tell you most practices you will spend half the time running. Make sure your workouts on the Bow Flex are increasing your heart rate and providing you with a cardio workout.

Finally
