What Is the Difference Between a CYT-Certified Yoga Teacher and RYT-Registered Yoga Teacher?

While there are no set regulations on what level of training is necessary to teach yoga, choosing to pursue teacher certification, demonstrates a commitment to yoga. CYT certification reveals that a yoga instructor has pursued a certain level of education in yoga techniques.

There are many different programs offering certification to yoga instructors, and it is up to individual organizations to decide what the appropriate professional requirements are. Globally, there is very little regulation of yoga. There are some registries, in different countries, which work to set standards for yoga teachers and the public.

It is important to understand the difference between being certified and being registered as a yoga instructor. You may teach yoga as either a CYT or an RYT. The difference comes from being registered with the Yoga Alliance after a certain level of training has been completed, according to their requirements.

The Yoga Alliance publishes their requirements for the RYT on their website. As of this writing, they are the only recognized association in the United States that registers yoga instructors. The main difference between these two acronyms comes from the RYT designation, which is a registered trademark by the Yoga Alliance.

To become a CYT, or certified yoga teacher, one goes through an educational program with a yoga teacher training school. Certification is evidence to students that you have pursued an active education in your yoga practice. Certification, as a yoga teacher, allows you to teach yoga classes and start your own practice.

The principal elements of yoga: asana, breath, meditation, mantra, and more, are focused on, in certification programs. Additionally, learning to modify poses for beginners, knowing the fundamentals of posture and alignment, how to explain a pose verbally, and correct common mistakes, is crucial to becoming a certified yoga teacher.

Many training programs set their standards the same as the Yoga Alliance, so that when the certification is completed, graduates move forward and can become registered. Other schools are extensive in their training and offer certified graduates the opportunity to gain higher credentials, in other ways, to reach their training goals. They may choose to register after further teaching.

A minimum of 200 contact (face-to-face training) hours is required by the Yoga Alliance to be considered a Registered Yoga Teacher (RYT). The framework of these training hours is broken down into five categories of techniques, training and practice, anatomy and physiology, yoga philosophy and ethics, teaching methodology, and practicum. The aim of this program is to have a deep understanding of yoga, as well as a comprehensive ability in teaching others.

The second benefit of lifting heavy weights it that gains a few extra pounds of muscle can help burn fat. Muscle is metabolically active tissue, which means it's constantly burning calories. Gain some more muscle, and you'll be able to lose fat more quickly or just eat a little more of the foods you like without controversy!

Eat a healthy and carb-rich meal the night before

Exams can be seen as a feat of endurance. Just like you would prepare for an upcoming physical workout, you should apply similar techniques the night before an exam. Eat a healthy meal to ensure your body feels physically ready. This includes whole-grain pasta, bread with cheese and of course lots of fruits and vegetables

Get a good night’s rest

Perhaps you may be nervous about your upcoming exam. Try to relax as best as you can and go to sleep early to ensure you get a good nights rest. Try this technique to help calm your nerves. Go into bed 1-2 hours prior, but instead of trying to fall asleep right away, read an ASVAB study guide, or your notes to help you relax and get sleepy. You can even turn off the lights and listen to an audio ASVAB study guide.

Do a light stretch or workout in the morning

Working out increases your heart rate and blood flow. This in turn increases the blood going to your brain which results in your ability to think and process faster. You want your brain to be in top working condition when you get ready to start your exam. If you don’t have time for a workout consider light stretching.

Eat a light breakfast

The time to load your body with nutrition is the night before. This will have given your body plenty of time to digest and absorb the nutrients to prepare you for exam day. The day of the exam may find you so nervous that a big meal may cause you to puke.

Therefor find a light and healthy snack, perhaps cereal and milk, or healthy sandwich

Physical Fitness Tests – Kraus-Weber Test

A good way to know your fitness level is by taking a fitness test that will test your physical endurance, body strength and help you understand the basic relationship between body strength and fitness. One of the best known methods for it is Kraus-Weber Test (K-W Test).

Components of Kraus-Weber Test (K-W Test).

A K-W test known as Minimum Muscular Fitness test has six different components, and this test is capable of measuring various muscle groups in term of their physical strength and inherent flexibility. The higher the ratings are; greater will be your fitness level.

The third part of K-W Test series requires the person to lie flat on the back and keeps hands behind the neck and legs remain straight and lifted up, for about ten seconds in a stretch.

The fourth parts of K-V Test series person lie on hisher stomach; and while keeping the feet firm to the ground one need to lift the head and shoulders along with the chest off the ground for about ten seconds. Test number five’s posture is similar as fourth one; only addition is that one needs to lift knees straight off the ground for ten seconds.

Finally, in last test i.e. number six; one need to stand straight barefoot while both of the feet must be placed together firmly to the ground; then, while keeping the knees straight one needs to bend slowly so as to touch the ground with the fingertips. One needs to hold on in same posture for about three seconds. This test is really useful to gauze one’s fitness level and to understand what needs to be done to improve fitness level of a person who takes this test.
